If you are interested in buying a new Cartier make sure you do so from an authorized dealer.  They can be found on Cartier’s website and it worth the time to research.

Thinking about who you are, how you live and what your fashion style is should be considered.  Have a price range in mind before you shop and look at the Cartier website to see what their suggested retail price is.  You can buy directly from them on their e-boutique if you want a new watch.

Think about the features that are important to you.  For instance, the functionality you would need if you are a diver would include it could handle the pressures of the depths you frequent.  If you are a runner you would want a watch to track your miles.  And if you are into sports you would want a watch that can measure times to a fraction of a second.

Consider the way you dress.  Are you in business, or do you have a more casual look?  Do you want a band that is stainless steel or would an alligator strap be more your style?  How about rubber, are you more of an urban dweller?  Perhaps you want the option to change out your bands to meet your mood.

You may have found a great deal on a slightly used Cartier online, one thing you can do to ensure it is authentic is to take down the serial number, call Cartier and have them check their database.  It will be registered if it’s real.

Some of the things you can check for a used watch that are fairly easy to do are:

Weight – Cartier watches are weighty due to the expensive parts involved in creating them; make sure it is the correct weight.

Inscription – Remove the case back and look for “Cartier” inscribed on the movement.

Glass – Genuine Cartier watches have a scratch-proof sapphire crystal that is also smear proof.

Cabochon stone – The crown will have a polished gemstone securely fastened not glued.

Serial Number – On the back or the side of the case there is a serial number engraved on the watch.   A fake usually has the serial number lightly etched into the case.

Certification – Insist on the original documentation that came with the watch, it will have the name of the dealer it was purchased from, the country code where it was originally sold, and the model and the serial numbers.
