Cartier makes some very classy watches. I would refer to these, not as “men’s watches,” but more as “gentlemen’s watches.” Indeed, Cartier is the taste of many a refined gentleman. The Cartier Santos Dumont Mens Watch W2006951 is no exception to the trend as it boasts elegant and classic features that have a certain distinguished quality to them.

On the shape of the watch, it has a square face with an exquisite leather alligator style bracelet. The overall effect of this is a contrast to the metallic nature of most watches and allows this watch to have a more earthy and natural look and feel to it. This is enhanced by the roman hour makers arranged around the face of the watch. It gives the timepeiece an ancient feel, as f part of some long standing and respectable tradition. And such a feeling is not far from the truth. In 1904, the prototype for this watch was given to the Brazilian pioneer aviator, Santos-Dumot, hence the name of the collection. The namesake for the watch is fitting as it evokes feeling of a refined and beguiling adventuresome man of old. It in fact reminds me of the most interesting man from those beer commercials. I am pretty sure he would wear a watch like this. Furthermore, a gentleman is never without his trusty sword. That is why this watch comes with sword shaped black oxidized steel hands. Perhaps this is the most interesting watch in the world.

The natural feel of this watch doesn’t mean it is dowdy however. There is an 18kt pink gold case as well as octagonal crown with The case, octagonal crown, and buckle all are 18kt pink gold–how very refreshing. The octagonal crown also boasts a sapphire set into it. Speaking of sapphire, the sapphire crystal is scratch resistant and the watch is water resistant to 30 meters–talk about durable. A rhodium plated dial and mechanical movement with manual winding top out the list of specs for this piece.

Now, the case is about 44.6×34.6 mm which makes it quite large. Coupled with the big roman numerals this watch is easier to read than the back of a cereal box. However, if you have petite feature than perhaps this is not the watch for you. But, if you are a refined gentleman like Ernest Hemingway, Theodore Roosevelt, or the guy from the beer commercials, then this is the perfect watch for you.

Are you a history buff with a thirst for the luxurious? Why not satisfy your inner librarian with the Cartier Santos Demoiselle Ladies Mini Solid Gold Watch WF9011Z8 which mixes all the elegance of Cartier with an intriguing story entrenched in history?

The Inspiration

Cartier loves to revel in its history, and the Santos Demoiselle is a classical example of Cartier mixing the richness of the past with the modern day. The watch series gets its name from the famous Portuguese aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont. Santos, who spent most of his life working in Paris, launched the first fixed wing aircraft in Paris in the early 20th century. Santos was not only a pioneer in the world of aviation, but was one of the first men to exchange pocket watches for wrist watches in the 20th century. The watch is named after Santos’ airplane: the Demoiselle and celebrates his forward thinking both on and off the airstrip. Like Santos himself, the Santos Demoiselle is a study in both practicality and fashion.

The Design

The beautiful 18k pink gold link that look like a yellow brick road to fashion and mirror the rectangular, boxy wings of the Demoiselle aircraft, which is mirrored in the square dial face. The round-cut diamonds set into the bezel add a bit of sparkle and work together with the gold casing to create a gentle glow. With quartz movement, water resistance of up to 30meters/100 feet, and a scratch resistant sapphire dial window, this watch is sure to keep ticking as long as you do.

Feature Summary

18K pink gold case and bracelet

Water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet

Quartz movement

Round cut diamonds set into the bezel

Sapphire crystal dial window

Cons

Readability may be an issue with this watch—it’s not called a “mini” for nothing! The minuscule roman numerals on the tiny dial won’t make reading this watch any easier. If you’re looking for a slightly more readable watch, try the Cartier La Dona Gold Ladies Watch WE600551 which features the same diamond-studded case with a slightly larger watch face.

Cartier is always top-of-the-line for fine watch making, but their ability to merge the triumphs of the past into a chic design in the present places them beyond their competitors. The Cartier Santos Demoiselle Ladies Mini Solid Gold Watch WF9011Z8 is a perfect example of this sort of excellence and will have you soaring to new heights whether you love a watch with a story behind it, or just love the warm glow of this Cartier classic.

Written by: Laura Barber

With its machine-like design and futuristic style, the Cartier Santos-Dumont Skeleton Carbon Men’s Watch W2020052 looks like something you would expect to see someone wearing in The Matrix. So, if you’re the kind of guy who likes to picture himself in a black trench coat and dark sunglasses dodging bullets and single-handedly fighting off a crowd of bad guys with your ultramodern ninja skills, this is definitely the watch for you.

As a brand, Cartier is known for its intricate, whimsical and sometimes even bizarre designs, and the W2020052 is no stranger to this trend. This watch boasts an entirely titanium case, bezel and crown, sword-shaped brass hands and an alligator skin bracelet with an adjustable 18-karat white gold buckle. Its most interesting and notable feature however, is the detailing on the face. Because this is a skeleton watch, it lacks a solid dial. Instead, the Roman numerals that form the bridges of its movement create a sort of makeshift dial, through which you can see this timepiece’s inner workings.

The W2007051 brings a more traditional look to Cartier's Santos-Dumont collection.

Other features of this watch include:
• Mechanical movement with manual winding caliber
• 38.7 mm x 47.4 mm case dimensions
• Up to 72 hours of power reserve
• Water-resistant to 100 feet (30 meters)
• Movement is individually numbered
• Sapphire crystal and case back

Despite its somewhat spindly appearance, this watch is actually quite solid. The strength of the titanium used throughout its composition will make this one difficult to break. However, if there are problems with your watch, it is protected under a two-year limited warranty.

To sum up all the pros about this watch:
• Its interesting and intricate design
• Its durability
• Its three day long power reserve
• Its water-resistance

Unfortunately, you can’t have pros without cons:
• Price—$46,000 (and that doesn’t include any sales tax)
• Readability—if you didn’t already know there were Roman numerals on this watch, I bet you wouldn’t even notice them.
• Its futuristic look will probably only appeal to a small group of shoppers
• Lack of variety— not for those who prefer a diverse color palette or a selection of different materials in the construction of their watch

If you have the money to spend and this selection from the Santos-Dumont collection satisfies your stylistic tastes, then go ahead and get this watch, I don’t think you’ll regret it. However, if you prefer something a little more subdued, Cartier offers other watches in the same collection that have a more traditional look.

Cartier is a brand that evokes the words elegance, luxury, and fine quality. These timepieces are ones for sophisticated individuals. If you can afford a Cartier than you can are the type of person that doesn’t have the time to shop around. So let me save you the trouble by telling you that the Cartier Men’s Santos 100 Chronograph Black Dial Watch W2020005 is absolutely the most gorgeous men’s watch that I have ever seen. You will love every thing about it, I can guarantee it.

This watch was designed for the smart, smooth, sexy individual who needs a little bit more to complete their outfit. The kind of man that has the designer Italian suits, but needs a timepiece to match everything else in quality. The kind of man that desires perfection in everything he does and owns. The kind of man that does not need a timepiece to last forever, but needs its quality to stay timeless. This is the kind of guy that was made for Cartier.

The front dial with the classic Roman numerals.

This timepiece is analog. There are white hands that tell the time and in the middle of the watch face are three different indicators. The watch face is grey and the strap is also a dark grey. The numbers inside the watch in the watch face are presented in bold classy Roman numerals. The numbers are presented in a white font, which makes it very easy to see against the black background of the inner watch face. In the middle of the watch is also the words Cartier branded subtly, but still very easy to read for everyone else around you to know that you don’t mess around. The inside features a very stylish and aesthetically pleasing design, which sets this timepiece apart from many other watches. Everyone around you will be impressed by the quality of your watch and the unique design it presents.

The watch itself is shaped like a square and it features antireflective-sapphire as the dial window material. This offers a great deal of scratch resistance, which is good. When you spend this much on a quality timepiece it is reassuring to know that it will not be damaged very easily. The bands material is made of calfskin, which adds the very appealing dark grey color.

Notice the elegant grey casing

The watch is also resistant up to 330 feet, which is not an extremely impressive amount; however, it is more than enough to protect it against rain and the average water damage. You will be able to leave this timepiece on in the shower and bath, which may save you some time throughout your busy day. This watch is also a measly 5.60 ounces, which means that it will feel like it is not even on your wrist at times. This can be good as the last thing you need is more work on you throughout the day.

This timepiece would make an excellent addition to any man’s collection. However, the retail price of $11,600 may set a few people off. If you want a good quality timepiece, then this is without a doubt the best decision you will ever make. You should definitely consider saving up for this watch, because it may increase in value over time as watches this stylish are very hard to come by.

The Cartier Santos 100 W20072X7 may seem rather like an intricate block of gold and steel, however this centennial watch is much more, yet another excellent display of the fine craftsmanship of Cartier.

Created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Santos de Cartier watch, this particular model is bold and traditional. A marvel of gold and steel, the bezel is set in 18k yellow gold with a stainless steel case designed to create a layered frame around the square face. The watch dial is of silvered opaline and coated with a scratch defense of sapphire crystal. Black Roman numerals stand at a slightly slanted angle around the rim as sword-shaped black oxidized-steel hands tick past each around the face of the watch with their consistent and soothing rhythm. The textured brown alligator skin material of the wrist band is held snugly around your arm by a secure 18k deployment clasp. With Cartier’s own Calibre 049 Swiss-automatic self-winding movement, this Cartier watch is water resistant down to 330 feet, so it can complement not only the most formal evening wear, but also the wildest outdoor adventure outfit.

As this timepiece is priced at $9,000, it is no small investment and is not for the faint of wallet buyer. Weighing in at two pounds, everything about this watch, including its heaviness, testifies to its superior design and quality of material. However the weight on your wrist could be evidence that you could do without on a daily basis. A name like Cartier is priceless and quality has been infused into all aspects of this watch, but the weight and price could be cause for consideration.

Not only is this classic example of Cartier style a fine watch in its own right, the Cartier Santos 100 W20072X7 was created as a marker in the history of Cartier’s watch making and thus it is somewhat of a collection piece as well. For lovers of fine watches and Cartier’s unparalleled taste and skill in particular, there cannot be found a better bold piece of time telling machinery that is also a historical and fashionable statement. As with all of their watches, Cartier offers a way to personalize the watch for yourself or to make it a even more special gift to another, with complimentary engravings. Whether you ask for the complimentary bracelet adjustment or just receive the exclusive Cartier red box sent straight to you, you timepiece experience will be a special one.

Cartier was founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier and has since maintained an ionic legacy of serving the finest royalties and celebrities, earning the epithet of “Jeweler to Kings, Kings of Jeweler” from one of the Princes of Wales. The Cartier Santos W2020009 hails from a historical line of the first practical wristwatch that Louis Cartier designed for the always “impeccably tailored” Alberto Santos-Dumont, a Brazilian-born aviator and highly acclaimed celebrity who was the first to fly an airplane in Europe in the early 1900s. This model is created in order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Santos de Cartier watch. Made from the finest steel, 18K pink gold bezel, 18K pink gold octagonal crown set with a faceted black synthetic spinel, sapphire crystal, black dial, Roman numerals, steel pinkish rhodimuized sword-shaped hands with phosphorescent coating, fabric strap, 18K pink gold triple positioned buckle, mechanical movement with automatic winding Cartier caliber Cartier 049, and water resistant up to 100meters (330 feet), and steel and case coated with ADLC. This is functional beauty with artistic precision wristwatch for the man that exhibits bold masculinity, sexiness, and professionalism.

A masterpiece is defined by how the craftsman caters to details. The contrast of the 18K pink gold against the black synthetic spinel exudes a daringness to be bold and edgy for the charismatic and beguiling man with an impeccable sense of style. The black synthetic screws on the face of the watch make an audacious statement that function, precision, and flawless craftsmanship can impose on the realm of artistic creation. The fabric strap further attenuates the bold and edginess while maintaining sophistication and classiness. This is a practical wristwatch for the man who strives on perfect execution, efficiency, with a suaveness to bring it all together.

The Santos W2020009 will complement a man in his business suit, rolled up shirt, blazer, or leather jacket. It is unapologetically masculine and should be worn to business meetings, interviews, presentations as well as a night out with the boys, to the bars, clubs, or on a promising first-date. This practical wristwatch will impress anywhere, anytime, and anyone.

The Santos 100 Carbon Watch, Large Model is currently offered at $10,400 (excluding sales tax) on the Cartier website. There are similar creations you can choose from depending on how big or small you prefer your watch face or the kind of movement you want—you can’t go wrong with a Cartier watch nonetheless and should do a lot of research and put a lot of thought into the kind of style and image you want to portray and impose on the times of today and tomorrow. The uniqueness of this watch lies in its appreciation of the Cartier’s history and the foundation on which the Cartier’s ionic legacy was built on. It is a modern interpretation on the classic practical wristwatch made for the man who strives on soaring to newer heights in life and doing it with an immaculate sense of style and boldness.

Cartier, a brand that has long been associated with luxury and refinement, is continuing their tradition of producing classically elegant watches. The Cartier Santos 100 Steel W200737G maintains this tradition with a simple, clean design. The face is adorned with Roman numeral hour markers that make a bold visual impact in contrast to the silvered opaline dial. The dial is not cluttered with chronograph sub-dials like so many other watches on the market these days, so its look can definitely be called “classic.”

Cartier Santos 100 Steel (W200737G)

Drawbacks: The Cartier Santos 100 Steel W200737G features a simple, clean aesthetic with minimal distractions, sub-dials, or extra markings. It is not a sports or “performance” watch. It will not allow you to read out second measurements while driving a race car. You cannot take it scuba diving. It will not survive a 1,000 foot fall from the top of a cliff. You get the picture. Rather, the Santos 100 Steel (W200737G) is a well-crafted, elegant timepiece that will impress in the boardroom, on a date, or at a ritzy social function.

The Bottom Line

The Cartier Santos 100 Steel W200737G is not the watch for an extreme athlete or outdoor enthusiast. It is, however, a versatile, stylish, classy timepiece that is sure to impress on any occasion.

The Cartier Santos 100 men’s watch W2020004 is both gorgeous and indestructible! This is a high-end luxury watch which can endure the perils of adventure and keep you looking ultra stylish at the same time. It exudes quality and luxury while also looking cool, laid back and savvy, not flashy. It is classic, elegant and dashing while simultaneously coming off as rugged, adventuresome and high-tech.

The Cartier Santos 100 is both strong and gorgeous.

The watch is packed with high-end features such as its titanium ADLC coated case and 18k rose gold bezel. (See what I mean about this watch being both exquisite and rock-solid tough at the same time?) It has a black dial with gold roman numerals, along with three smaller dials (for the chronograph functions). The back of the case is made from solid, black steel, PVD secured via 8 screws. The dial covering is of course made from scratch resistant sapphire crystal and the watch is Swiss made. The Santos 100 is run with Self Winding Automatic Calibre 8630 Movement and stays securely on your wrist with a comfortable black Toile de Voile band. It has a titanium deployment buckle clasp and is water resistant at 100 meters (330 feet)! This amount of water resistance far exceeds the norm for many other luxury watches. Just all the more evidence that Cartier is envisioning this watch being taken on some great adventures!

The perfect owner of this watch is a man who appreciates comfort but who would never sacrifice style, someone who is equally comfortable in the rugged outback as he is in a posh nightclub. This watch is for a man who is looking for a watch that can keep up with his active lifestyle during the day and which can also accompany him when he sits down to a gourmet meal at his favorite local hot spot in the evening. He can feel free to live his lifestyle to the fullest without ever having to change his watch! Cartier makes life brilliantly simple with the beautifully versatile Santos 100.

The Cartier Santos 100 would make a great gift if you have a man in your life who fits the above description. Even if he is not a wild adventurer, daily life provides us with enough bumps in the road to require a watch that can keep up while keeping us looking great at the same time. The only drawback is the price tag. For that much money, they could perhaps have thrown in a diamond or two. Diamond is, after all, one of the strongest materials we have. On the other hand, this watch does not need diamonds to prove its toughness, nor does this watch need their sparkle to prove its quality. It is like the strong, silent type… handsome, tough and so irresistibly attractive.

Pros:

Beautifully styled

Highest quality of craftsmanship and materials

Versatile

Cons:

Expensive

Written By: Kaelyn Harding

Cartier watches have earned a reputation for luxury in the way of watches and and accessories. For fans of the Cartier lines, the newest innovations from this brand-name are highly anticipated. Unfortunately, like every line, some new models are simply not as successful as others. In the case of the Cartier Santos Galbee W20099C4 XL Men’s Watch, you may want to keep your wallets closed.

Don’t get me wrong – like all Cartier products, quality is an assurance. The W20099C4 is designed with 18 karat gold for the frame and the screws that accent the watch band. The rest of the watch and the links of the band itself are brushed steel. The clock face and its iconic blue sword-shaped hands are encased in a sapphire-crystal cover which is both scratch-resistant and waterproof up to a hundred feet. The screws that hold the piece together have been cleverly inverted to balance the gold and silver accents, making tiny, warm dots along the band where the gold has been inlaid.

One of the perks of this watch is that while it targets men in its title, the watch is slim enough to match the tastes of many women as well. For that reason, I think this model could functionally be unisex as opposed to simply men’s wear. It has an adjustable band as well as a free wrist fitting upon purchase, so customization is a guarantee. The Santos Galbee line comes with a three year warranty as well as a lifetime battery-replacement guarantee. At least if you are going to pay through the nose for something, it will last you a long time.

The $8,000 price tag for the W20099C4 is generated primarily by the design quality of this Santos Galbee model. While the 18 karat gold contributes, in general, you are paying for the ingenuity and originality of the base and the rows of gold screws that accent the wrist watch’s band. The piece is not wreathed in diamonds nor is it really anything that we haven’t seen before – sapphire-crystal coverings are standard face plates in luxury watches these days and they are found in watches as cheap as $800 in other brands like Gucci and Tag Heuer. What does this mean for consumers? It means that while we can appreciate the subtle charm of this timepiece, it may not be worth its starting price. Online markets seem to support this assessment because prices for the W20099C4 can be found as low as $5,995.

The pros and cons in consideration, the W20099C4 is a high-quality watch, but is nothing truly spectacular. I advise against seeking it out at the manufacturer’s price as so many stores will now sell it for thousands of dollars less.
